Setting the Mood
Many couples get comfortable in their relationships over time and the spark starts to dwindle. People settle into routines and sex may not stick to the top of the priority list. Try breaking from your usual routine and set the mood! We all know what's not sexy, but people don't realize the effects these day-to-day, routine things may have on a sex life. Here are a few simple things you can do to help set the mood:
Start by removing the clutter in the bedroom! Make the atmosphere as relaxing as possible. Remove TVs and other distractions.
Make the bed or at the very least straighten it up! Piles of Blankets and Pillows are just not sexy. Neither are dirty sheets.
Make sure the room smells nice. Put the dirty smelly gym clothes somewhere else!
Dim the lights but don't make it to dark. You want to be able to see your partner. Candles are nice but not necessary.
Turn on some soft sensual music. Some suggestions: My Bloody Valentine; Portishead; Slowdive; Neurosis; Sigur Ros
Make sure you are clean and smell nice. No time to get ready? Run a bubble bath for the two of you and wash each other.
Make sure you have everything you might need near by. Scavenger hunts can kill the mood rather quickly. Some things to remember: clean towels, massage oils, condoms, sex toys, etc. Think ahead. Having everything out will create clutter so put these items in a place that's easy to access but out of plain sight.
Wear something that makes you feel sexy. If your not comfortable with yourself how can anyone else be comfortable with you?
Be prepared to give your partner your full attention. Turn off the cell phone, computer, and remove any other potential distractions.
Setting the mood is easier said than done but a few simple steps can do a lot for your sex life!
Have fun!
